Ratings Roundup Week of December 3, 2017

The holiday doldrums hit ABC hard last week as The Good Doctor had one of its lowest rated episodes to date. ABC also premiered two new shows, The Great Christmas Light Fight and TheGreat American Baking Show. Both are short, six week series geared to fill the holiday gap as scripted programs take the holiday weeks off. Holiday specials, Shrek The Halls and The Toy Story Time Forgot had respectable numbers. The same cannot be said for several scripted shows, even with the holiday lows networks expect this time of year. Fans of Once Upon A Time and Agents of SHIELD should savor what's left of the season as neither of these shows will get another season. Designated Survivor is probably done as well.

The holiday doldrums apparently spared CBS last week as The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon both had solid numbers again. Hawaii Five-0, SEAL Team and several others saw an increase from last week's ratings as well. Holiday specials, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer and Frosty The Snowman were repeated last week and both had a big drop in numbers from their initial outings for this year.

NBC is going to miss NFL Football, and those envious numbers once the season is done at the end of the month. Will & Grace and Superstore reminded fans they were still out there with the first new episode in a month. Will & Grace did well, Superstore was only okay, landing right at the network average. Both episodes of The Voice posted nearly identical numbers last week. Blindspot equaled last week's numbers.

FOX had a quiet week last week. The network was gifted with an NFL overrun that boosted the Sunday night numbers. Lethal Weapon and Ghosted were steady. The Orville wrapped up its first season at the same number as last week. Gotham and The Gifted dipped slightly.

The CW saw a few interesting changes after the superhero crossover last week. The Flash slipped a couple of tenths from its usual numbers, Legends of Tomorrow rose a tenth, but Arrow dropped a tenth from its usual ratings. Supernatural regained its usual number two spot. Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend returned from a month off to their regular lows.

Next week will be the last Ratings Roundup report for 2017. It will be back January 8, 2018 with hopefully good news on new premiering shows as well as returning old favorites.

Of the DC shows, Arrow is my favorite and honestly thought that last season was going to be the last for it, mainly because it was the last season of going through his five years away with the flashbacks and all. This one is pretty good too, so I guess fans will see how long it lasts.

LadyShelley posted 6 years ago

From the standpoint it's the oldest of the DC series', then yes Arrow could be the first to go. Don't base that off of just last week, though. The series has been a consistent 0.5 for the season, it's in no danger of cancellation for this year at least. :)

The rumor on Agents of SHIELD at the end of last year was that ABC wanted to cancel it and Disney nixed the idea as they still had tie-in plans with the MCU universe. Not sure how true that is/was, but I hope they got everything done they wanted because there is no way ABC is gonna renew it with the numbers its put up so far.

I am getting the vibe that Arrow might be the first of the DC shows that is going to end and I sadly agree that this will be the last season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., hopefully it will get a decent ending.
