The CW premiered the second season of Superman & Lois to good numbers (by CW standards anyway). Assuming there is still a network after the pending sale, the show is in no danger of cancellation. Naomi opened well, time will tell if it can hold its audience. Walker returned after the holiday break about even with its last new episode. It's another easy renewal for the network. Nancy Drew lost one hundred thousand viewers. Penn & Teller: Fool Us was even.

ABC announced Station 19 and Grey's Anatomy will be back for another season last week. Judge Steve Harvey lost almost a million viewers off its premiere but still managed to take the top slot on the ratings chart. Abbott Elementary lost four hundred thousand viewers, but it's in line with the network's other top-rated comedies and is safe for now. The Wonder Years gained a ratings tenth. Other comedies are faring worse, so it should be safe. The Rookie gained a ratings tenth, though its viewer numbers were the same. Considering Queens is done, The Rookie may yet eke out another season.

CBS feasted on football last week with both an NFL overrun and the Saturday Wild Card game. Ghosts remains steady and should be an easy renewal. FBI: International lost a tenth last week, but is in no danger. Good Sam is likely done. It lost a ratings tenth and three hundred thousand viewers it couldn't afford. Back to the drawing board for CBS execs when it comes to medical dramas. Magnum PI was up a tenth and will be an easy renewal. Blue Bloods was even for ratings but gained a couple hundred thousand viewers. Assuming the cast are still interested in making more, it should be renewed as well. The Equaliser gained a couple of tenths, thanks to the NFL overrun, but it was safe regardless.

NBC had a fairly quiet week. American Auto and Grand Crew both gained a rating tenth last week. American Auto will probably earn itself a renewal. Grand Crew is still likely cancelled. The good news for Kenan is it held its premiere audience. The bad news is, that audience wasn't very big to begin with. It's currently the lowest-rated comedy for the network so its future is not looking very bright. Ordinary Joe has a couple of episodes left before it's shuffled off to the dustbin of history.

FOX premiered Pivoting last week to good numbers, a benefit of an NFL overrun. Call Me Kat opened its second season, benefiting from the NFL audience for its premiere. Unfortunately, both shows lost almost all of their premiere audiences once in their regular Thursday night timeslots behind a weak lead-in of Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer. With its current numbers, Pivoting won't be renewed and Call Me Kat is iffy at best. The Cleaning Lady lost three hundred thousand viewers off its premiere. Assuming it settles where it is now, it should be renewed. 9-1-1 Lone Star lost two tenths off its premiere but is likely safe.

It's getting to do or die time for a number of network programs. How are your favorites doing this season?
Written by LadyShelley on Jan 17, 2022
The CW is in a Berlanti rut of late. Arrow was a good, compelling series for the first four seasons or so. Then it sort of fell apart when it wasn't so much the lone vigilante but this whole team of people beyond Felicity and Diggle. I gave up at that point. I got caught up on Flash over the summer. Not sure how much longer I'll bother to stick with it now that Cisco and Harry are gone. I still enjoy the complete nonsense that is Legends of Tomorrow. It's fun and doesn't take itself seriously.
Never bothered with any of the others.
The big question (and it is a serious one) is what's going to happen once the network is sold? Assuming someone actually wants to buy it. The CW has never been a profitable venture for either Warner or CBS. Unless there are some interesting clauses in the contracts, it's entirely possible that the new owners will be left with nothing in terms of content. Warners produces most of those superhero shows. Depending on the terms of any sale, it's not outside the realm of possibility that any shows they still want to make would move to a streaming platform. The CBS-produced shows have never been as popular but they could move their offerings to Paramount+.
The premiere of Superman & Lois 2nd season is looking up for me after a not-so-good finale for the 1st season... On another note, I think it's kind of pointless to re-run 4400 TV show, seeing how terrible of a show it is... I feel like CW is losing its somewhat already lost grip on these new superhero shows...God, I used to love The Flash and Batwoman and they really ruined the whole experience for me *I guess I should've stuck myself with the anime version of those, lol*. I think The Arrow was a one-off series where their production showed true potential for them to compete with HBO and Netflix...
I've wondered about that. I don't watch the show to know how integral the character was to the plot lines, but The Goldbergs is getting up there in terms of seasons (they are in their ninth now, which is pretty unheard of for comedies these days) so it's already expensive in terms of actor contracts. On the other hand, its ratings are still good, it's consistently not only the highest-rated comedy on the network but one of its highest-rated shows in general. ABC has proven in the past it can roll with removing high profile actors from major roles (see The Conners) and still keep going. My gut says they will be renewed for a "final season" for next year and that will be that. It will be a nice round ten seasons for the show, and it will give the production time to wrap up any outstanding threads.
I have a question, how much longer do you see The Goldbergs lasting with Jeff Garlin exiting this season?
