The CW proved there may still be a little gas in that superhero tank last week with the premieres of Superman & Lois and the much-anticipated Gotham Knights. Superman & Lois opened about where it ended last summer. Gotham Knights opened well by CW standards. Nothing is certain with NexStar in control, but if it doesn't lose much off its premiere, it might have a future. The Flash picked up one hundred thousand viewers. All American and All American: Homecoming returned after a month off, about even with their last new episodes.

ABC saw the Oscars gain two-tenths of a ratings point and two million more viewers compared to last year's broadcast. What was more telling was that, for the second year in a row, the other networks ran competing programming. After years of no one running new episodes against the venerable awards show, now networks seem more willing to air more than just repeats. The Good Doctor gained one hundred thousand viewers. Alaska Daily was up four hundred thousand viewers. Not Dead Yet was even.

CBS opened the 2023 NCAA basketball tournament down compared to last year. The Equaliser was down six hundred thousand viewers. East New York lost five hundred thousand viewers. Both shows were against the Oscars, so some loss was expected, but it's rather telling that the losses weren't higher. NCIS returned after a week off, up two hundred thousand viewers. True Lies was even.

NBC saw most of its shows lose viewers last week. Night Court lost four hundred thousand viewers but remained the highest-rated comedy for the network. American Auto lost two hundred thousand viewers but was still holding its own. It should be easily renewed. Grand Crew managed to find an additional one hundred thousand viewers, but far too little too late. Fans should enjoy the remaining episodes. Lopez vs Lopez was even but remained low. It's likely done as well. Magnum PI was down three hundred thousand viewers against the Oscar competition. The Blacklist picked up one hundred thousand viewers.

FOX repeated the premiere episode of Farmer Wants A Wife twice before its second episode aired to little benefit. The dating show was down two hundred thousand viewers from its premiere. It is cheap to produce, however, so assuming its numbers don't completely implode, it will likely be renewed. Animal Control picked up two hundred thousand viewers. Accused lost three hundred thousand eyeballs. 9-1-1 was down half a million viewers. 9-1-1: Lone Star lost four hundred thousand viewers. The Sunday animated shows were all down a few hundred thousand viewers, but those ratings should bounce back this week.

We're in the home stretch of the 2022-23 season. How are your favorite shows doing?

Awesome!
no it was helpful. thanks
Oh good! Glad you got something from it. :)
I don't know about theimortal1974, but I found all that very informative and useful. Thanks so much, LadyShelley! :)
That will depend on who you ask. Since no network show can even draw an entire ratings point these days, I base my analysis more on the viewer numbers than the rating. In reality, the networks don't use these numbers at all. I write my articles based on Final Overnights. Basically the adjusted numbers from the fast overnights that take into account things like time zones.
The numbers that the networks base their decisions on are the C3's. (Commercial 3-day) so the accumulated numbers for the first three days an episode is available. In theory, this captures viewers who record and view later. Remember the networks aren't interested in how many people watch the show. They are interested in knowing how many people watch the commercials as that's what pays the bills. The networks can charge more for the adverts that run during Chicago Fire, for example, but have to charge a lot less for Grand Crew because so few people watch it. As a result, Chicago Fire gets renewed and Grand Crew likely gets cancelled in the hopes of something else (say Night Court) will bring in a larger audience.
The general public does not have access to the C3's, but the Final Overnights get pretty close.
Anyone hyping up the 7-Day or even worse 30-Day numbers are selling something. The networks don't really care at that point, and more importantly, the advertisers don't care at that point, since the ads are likely getting skipped. Those pumped-up numbers might look good, especially on a press release, but the PR people know the facts. They are hoping you don't. :)
Does that help or is it waaaay more info than you wanted?
i'm confused. last week quantum leap went down in the ratings but up in the viewership as you reported. which one is more important? at least this week the ratings bounced back up and the viewership went up .1
