Benjamin Bratt is an American actor and producer, born on December 16, 1963, in San Francisco. His Peruvian-born mother, an activist of Quechua heritage, took him to the 1969 Native American occupation of Alcatraz, inspiring his lifelong support for Indigenous causes. After earning a BFA at UC Santa Barbara, Bratt trained at the American Conservatory Theater. Roles in Blood In Blood Out and Demolition Man preceded his breakthrough as Detective Rey Curtis on Law & Order, earning him an Emmy nomination. He later appeared in Traffic, Miss Congeniality, Piñero, Coco, Poker Face and Andor, showing range across drama, comedy and animation. Bratt produced and starred in his brother Peter's La Mission, exploring masculinity, family and LGBTQ acceptance in San Francisco's Latino community. Beyond acting he backs the American Indian College Fund and promotes more Native and Latino representation in entertainment.
