Ratings Roundup for the Week of April 4, 2021

The CW premiered its rebooted version of Kung Fu to good numbers. The program so far is holding its own against the other more popular fare on the network, time will tell if it can hold its audience. Walker returned after a month off, down a tenth. The Flash gained a tenth.

ABC premiered two new shows last week. Home Economics opened to fair numbers, easily in the same range as the rest of the Wednesday comedy block. New legal drama, Rebel opened on the low side. Its ratings were similar to A Million Little Things in the same slot, but that show never really performed well either. Speaking of which, A Million Little Things moving to a new night didn't hurt it, at least. It was even with the previous week. Pooch Perfect dropped two tenths off its premiere, cheap to make may not be enough to save it. Black-ish and Mixed-ish both lost another tenth they couldn't afford and are likely done. On the off chance they are renewed, expect a final season announcement with the renewal.

CBS made the surprise announcement last week that MacGyver would wrap its series run at the end of the current season. Considering there are two other dramas, namely SEAL Team and SWAT, that regularly score lower in the ratings, something else must be the reason for pulling the plug. In other news, the Eye enjoyed the fruits of the NCAA Championship game and more importantly, a game that wasn't that far off from last year, losing only three tenths. United States of Al held its premiere rating. B Positive bounced up a tenth. Clarice was up a tenth as well, but it's likely too little too late. The Equalizer and Blue Bloods each lost a tenth. MacGyver and Magnum PI were even.

NBC saw most of its line-up down over last week. No surprise that Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organised Crime dropped from their premiere highs. Both are still at respectable numbers, and Organised Crime should be renewed. The Chicago shows were all down a tenth. This Is Us was even with its last new episode. Young Rock and Kenan held their numbers from the previous week. Debris managed to gain a tenth, but it's likely done regardless. Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist was steady but with barely a million viewers, it won't see another season.

FOX announced Bless the Harts was cancelled after two seasons. No real surprise, its numbers were never that strong compared to the rest of the Sunday animation block. Since the network renewed Duncanville for a third season before the second even aired, it's a safe bet what will be filling that slot on Sundays next season. The Moodys gained a tenth and 100,000 viewers after its premiere. While nice, those numbers are still low and without the excuse of holiday viewing to explain them, chances are it won't be renewed.

I liked the pilots of Home Economics ad Kung Fu enough to watch them for at least the following episodes of each. I'll probably keep up watching them. Rebel's pilot episode was interesting enough for me to watch its second episode, probably won't anymore after that one.

Surprised about MacGyver, but not sad. Without spoiling let's just say the drama aspect of the show was getting a bit too much.

Might need to give a try to Kung Fu, it seems my tastes recently are leaning towards reboots.

I gave up on MacGyver in season 3 when George Eads left and they showed no sign of getting rid of the dead weight that was Justin Hires' character. Peter Lenkov did such an amazing job with Hawaii Five-0 but both MacGyver and Magnum PI have been wanting in my eyes.
