Ratings Roundup for the Week of April 24, 2022

The CW dropped the bombshell late Friday night that both Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow are officially cancelled. What makes these cancellations interesting is both shows garnered decent ratings for the network. Certainly better than the likes of Riverdale, which was renewed several weeks ago, or Nancy Drew which was also renewed, likely on the back of a potential spinoff series. Is this The CW trying to clean house of Arrow-verse shows as part of a sales bid? (Chances are high The Flash will be ending with its ninth season next fall.) And what does this mean for much lower-rated shows such as Charmed, Dynasty, Naomi, or Legacies which are also awaiting renewal news?

ABC wrapped the first season of Judge Steve Harvey last week. The back-to-back episodes were down compared to the previous week, with the finale losing more than half a million viewers. The 2022 NFL Draft brought in okay numbers for its first night but it lost a million viewers for night two. A Million Little Things picked up one hundred thousand viewers last week. It shouldn't be renewed based on its current numbers. After a week off, The Rookie returned, up a ratings tenth and four hundred thousand viewers.

CBS renewed Blue Bloods for a thirteenth season last week. Still no word on the FBI shows, The Equaliser, or Magnum PI. There's no reason for any of them to be cancelled, so not sure why the delay in making the announcement. Come Dance With Me picked up four hundred thousand viewers. Beyond The Edge scraped up a couple hundred thousand. Back-to-back episodes of How We Roll, did not fare well at all last week. Both episodes were down almost a million viewers from the previous week. Good Sam managed to find three hundred thousand viewers last week, but that won't be enough for a second season.

NBC had a workman-like week. This Is Us was down a ratings tenth, though it held its audience. Young Rock was up two hundred thousand viewers. Mr Mayor was even. The Endgame pulled in an additional two hundred thousand viewers, but it's likely done. American Song Contest lost another hundred thousand sets of eyeballs.

FOX had a quiet week. 9-1-1 was up one hundred thousand viewers while 9-1-1 Lone Star picked up four hundred thousand viewers from the previous week. The Resident was even. All three shows should be easy renewals for the network. The Masked Singer bounced back last week, picking up a rating tenth and four hundred thousand viewers. Call Me Kat lost two hundred thousand viewers and its chances of renewal are fading. Welcome To Flatch lost another hundred thousand viewers and can't end fast enough for the network execs.

I was rather bummed about Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow getting cancelled. If your theory about the Arrow-verse shows is a reason, how much past season 3 do you see Superman & Lois going? Or is it not technically part of it? I hope the FBIs and Magnum get new seasons.

Legends was the only CW show I watched, so to get cancelled (and on that cliffhanger!!!!) that hurt. :) Ditching the Arrow-verse, in general, is the only reason I can come up with to cancel these shows. Rating-wise both shows were doing A LOT better than Nancy Drew or Riverdale. The only reason I can think of is the network wants to thin the herd of superheroes to make itself more enticing to a buyer.

The FBI shows are in no danger. All of them have good ratings and CBS likes the idea of franchises. Magnum should be renewed. Again nothing wrong with its numbers for a Friday night series.
