My Mistake Adding an Episode of American Experience on PBS

tvjjbj12 posted 3 years ago

Hey, tnt. I hope you and your family are safe from COVID.

Thanks for correcting my mistake in American Experience by deleting the episode "Goin' Back To T-Town" that I added incorrectly. This isn't an excuse but I read "aired" and thought "premiered." I noticed it later and asked JuanArango to correct it here: https://www.tvmaze.com/users/2/juanarango/talk. He didn't respond. So, I figured he was tied up for now and I would wait a couple of days. I just noticed your work. Sorry to cause you extra duty. I wish I could have corrected it myself.

If you need something to watch, American Experience provides excellent history telling. So, thanks again.

Joe

Adding another "James Martin"

tvjjbj12 posted 3 years ago

Hey, tnt. I hope you and your family are well this Christmas Season.

I need your input on creating another "James Martin." There are eight to ten or so already in our People database.

A "James Martin" will be a guest on the December 15 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (https://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/1984449/the-late-show-with-stephen-colbert-2020-12-15-whoopi-goldberg-james-martin) with the press release using "Father James Martin." Looking through our list, I think this person is different from any of those "James Martins." An online search finds a Jesuit priest that is an author and editor-at-large of America, a Jesuit magazine. So, I believe creating a new one is valid. I just wanted your input. I could easily miss something. This name "James Martin" sure complicates correctly matching the right one with any TV show.

Thanks again for teaching me to use press releases for updates. They can make life easier. Oh, the new series Daleks! was pretty good. What do you think? I believe you did 99% of the updates.

Thanks as always.

Joe

Thank you, Joe, all good here. I hope you and yours are also well?
I liked the Daleks! very much. I would love to see the current Doctor meet the Mechanoids and their queen.

With such common names as James Martin or Paul Smith, for example, there's a big chance that you would meet many people with that name involved with different TV productions. There's nothing wrong with it, and even if you accidentally create a duplicate of the existing person it could easily be merged with the original later, keeping all appearances intact. When you adding a new name to the existing pool of namesakes, please try to include a middle name initial, birthday, and photo (if possible), so they could be identified easier.
Considering this particular James Martin – I guess it's a Jesuit priest James J. Martin, he looks famous enough to be invited to Colbert. In any case, we will know for sure after the episode premiere.

Cheers!

My sister & I are avoiding COVID so far. I'll wait till I see the episode to be sure it's this priest or, at least with The Late Show, see the opening credits. If so, I'll add him as "James L. Martin" as you suggest. I'll include images and an AKA of "Father James Martin." His bio will be easy enough to find. I do avoid Wikipedia per our Data Policies. But it would be great just to use the first paragraph or two sometimes making the hunt for a bio much easier.

As you say, "Cheers!"

Well, generally you can use the first sentence from the wiki without any limitations (removing DOB of course) because it usually contains only hard facts, which cannot be copyrighted. You may slightly rephrase it though.
