Co-stars

RoseRed posted 4 years ago

Hey TNT,

Can I just get a quick clarification? If the credits write "ADDITIONAL CAST" (In order of appearance) - should they be entered as Guest Stars or Co-stars? This follows actual crediting of Guest Stars. Both at the end of the episode. As always, thanks!

tnt posted 4 years ago

Well, per policy In some shows, the credits make a distinction between different kinds of starring roles, like "Special Guest Star" or "Co-Star". If this information is available it can be entered, otherwise simply leave it at the default of "Guest Star".

If they've made a distinction you can add "additional cast" separately from the regular guests. But since we do not have "additional cast" category, adding them as a default "guest stars" also won't be a mistake :)

Rejected

Alastor posted 4 years ago

Hello,

No, I did not mean the show you linked me to. I made a mistake linking to the wrong official site?

The show I am referring to is https://www.thetvdb.com/series/living-universe and https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5226346/ and https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/539835-living-universe?language=en-US so IDK why it was rejected unless all three sites are wrong and you are right? I guess it can happen mind you.

tnt posted 4 years ago

Here's the official site link you gave https://www.screenaustralia.gov.au/the-screen-guide/t/search-for-second-earth-2018/32100/, and we have this show. Hence was my question, because sometimes the same show is known under a different names in different countries.

IMDb link you provided is for the documentary movie, not a series. And TVDb episode names are exactly the same as in the show we have. So "Living Universe" is the same series as "Search for Second Earth".

Alastor posted 4 years ago

Okay, thanks.

tnt posted 4 years ago

Sure :)

I've added AKA to the series, so now it could be found by both names.

Alastor posted 4 years ago

Thank you for that :)

Malibu Rescue

dpratt posted 4 years ago

The Malibu Rescue pilot, what is being called a movie, is not a special. According to press releases Malibu Rescue is a "film & series" and the film kicks off the series. It's being released on Netflix with the same story arc and production credits as the rest of the series which makes it no different from the many many other shows that begin the series with an extended episode.

tnt posted 4 years ago

Both film and series are being released as a separate entities on Netflix. They're not in the single series, and series is not starting with episode 2, isn't it? I don't know, why Netflix decided to complicate this, but it is what it is, a two separate entries, a film and a series. So there's actually two choices here – either do not list a movie at all, since it's a one-off, or list it as a special, as we did with the Black Mirror's "Bandersnatch", for example.

dpratt posted 4 years ago

I definitely see your point. But the precedent on TVmaze has been it doesn't matter how they are released on Netflix. I have used this argument before and been shot down. Although in that case my argument was that it should be listed as an episode because that's how it was released. I said that if it was truly a special it would have been released as its own entity not an episode as part of the series (and continuing the same characters and story arc). And the community insisted it should be listed as a special. That was Sense8's episode titled Happy F*cking New Year.

dpratt posted 4 years ago

Another reason I disagree with you is because the film and series were produced at the same time in one go, and many press releases refer to both of them at the same time stating that the series is a continuation of the film. It's not like the movie came first, was a success, and then the series came afterwards.

tnt posted 4 years ago

Well, the Sense8 example would've make sense if "Malibu Rescue" the film was released and listed as part of "Malibu Rescue: The Series". But it's not, the film does not belong to the series, not by the Netflix's listings at least. While I understand, that it's connected, and it's a kind of extended pilot episode or something like that, the series have it's own episode #1, and it's not this movie. So, unless Netflix will decide to merge the entries, I'm afraid the it could only be listed as a special episode, or not listed at all, because we don't list movies.

You could create a thread in data forums to get a second opinion, but I'm afraid it doesn't change anything...

However TVmaze does list TV movies when they are part of a series. It's quite common for shows to promote regular episodes (such as premieres) as special events and/or a movies. But according to the policy a special's script doesn't follow the regular plot or arc as the series, which Malibu Rescue clearly does.

The TVmaze policy says, "Specials should be rare...if the premise of an episode significantly differs from normal episodes and if you can skip it without missing out on any story arcs, it's a special. For example, a scripted show airing a "recap" episode at the beginning of the season that only consists out of fragments from earlier episodes. Or an episode using the same actors as normal, but with a script completely unrelated to the show's regular plot or arcs."

>However TVmaze does list TV movies when they are part of a series.

But in this case the movie is not a part of the series. It's a separate, standalone movie, listed separately on the Netflix, not as a part of the series.

If you don't think it should listed as a special then it should be deleted. In any case it could not be considered as a regular episode of the series it doesn't belong to. Netflix doesn't list it as episode 1 of the series, neither should we.

Again, if you don't agree with me, you could start a thread in forums and as for a second opinion. You already know my point of view, and I know yours, so our further discussion on this matter would be a mutual waste of time :)

My Edit Requests

Thanks for handling my two Edit Requests. For the two Cory Booker bios, how did you transfer his appearances in show episodes from the one to be deleted to the other bio? Did you have to go into each episode and add the retained bio to each episode? Or is there an edit tool you have as a Curator that might simplify the process?

Trusted contributors and above have access to "Merge" tool, which basically merges two person records, including all appearances, images, AKAs and so on...

Mad About You

SilverSurfer posted 5 years ago

Is there a reason you created the revival as a new series? I assumed it would be handled like Roseanne; Will & Grace; Murphy Brown et al?

SilverSurfer posted 5 years ago

OK, but it is still a continuation of the original series with some original cast & crew and same storyline. Your call but I can't see it being listed as a separate series.

SilverSurfer posted 5 years ago

Thanks or link, just saw it was also brought up in Edit Requests.
