Alan Alda is an American actor and director born in New York City. He made his Broadway debut in 1959 and his film debut in 1963, but his role as Hawkeye Pierce on the long-running television series M*A*S*H (1972–83) gave him his greatest popularity. Alda earned more than 20 Emmy nominations and won five times for his work on the series, which showcased his talents as a socially conscious writer, director, and performer.
Alda married his wife Arlene in 1957. The couple has three daughters together: Eve, Elizabeth, and Beatrice.
In a July 2018 interview on CBS This Morning, Alda revealed that he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in early 2015, which he says barely slowed him down.
