Cash Cab - Photo is not appropiate!

Excuse me whoever totally removed my original photo for this show "Building Off the Grid" but what was wrong with it please? It is poster format, it fits perfect, it's clear and it is a DIY photo so why was it removed? I just now put it back because there is not anything wrong with it so someone else please look at it as well before it gets removed as well for no good reason I might add? - http://www.tvmaze.com/images/86185/building-off-th...

Just adding my 2 cents (1 cent after taxes). I don't believe Network or even webchannel photos are ever a problem for 2 reasons, 1st they are sideways as opposed to longways so they are a lot easier to find, 2nd I don't believe they even care about what the Network photos look like because if you look at that section of the site Tom you will find close to 1/2 of them are too big as something is cutoff on some of them.
I sometimes when i feel i have a little extra time browse that area and try to replace some of them just to make them look a lot better but overall between you and me they are not to concerned about them as they are with people and shows!
If just a few of us cleaned up a few of them each week we maybe could get them all looking great by this time next year if we are lucky?

He was not referring to those photos of the channel Ron, but to the shows beneath.

Oh, I must have missed them altogether?

Yeah thanks JDOG, I know it wasn't you, I was contacted by Thomas.
I've gone through the shows I was referring to again. Can a staff member please check the bottom of these two network pages and tell me if the images I've used are ok now please
http://www.tvmaze.com/networks/35/itv
http://www.tvmaze.com/networks/45/channel-4
Please let me know either here or by PM if any of the images aren't suitable, I've doctored some images to fit and hopefully these look better?

Hi Tom,

I was referring to those kind of photos I think should not be allowed to add.

For instance with this show;

http://www.tvmaze.com/shows/10211/alternative-chri...

It's like there is a person between that show and does not explain anything about that show. It's just a face of a person.

Well with that show in particular it'd be hard to find a image that goes with the show to tell you anything about it. It's a annual 10 minute broadcast, once a year with a different host who can really do anything they want with the ten minute slot. The Simpsons even had a broadcast once, to celebrate them moving to Channel 4 from the BBC.

While I understand that poster images are desired, and have always provided that proportion when appropriate, perhaps TVMaze should be a little less... picky about the photo content? What an image "explains" is subjective. And Ron, and Tom, and myself, go to some effort to find images.

If they can be replaced with a better image, fair enough. But i don't understand why deleting them and leaving the image blank is a preferable option. There are plenty of shows still missing: it seems odd to instead be deleting photos submitted by experienced users. Or any users.

If I am unable to come up with a better show summary, I don't delete the one that is there. So why do so with show images?

Cause one of the admins stated that if you can not find a fitting poster, we'd rather leave it blank ;)

Fitting is very subjective, the only reason for me to remove a poster is when the proportions are not fine, you cannot use a banner for example to use as a poster, everything else is almost fine with me, if I personally "like" a poster does not matter, if the proportions are ok it can stay in my opinion.

But of course it has to be tied to the show, using a random portrait of an actor that stars in that show is not what should be done.

Except TomSouthwell is saying in the example above he did submit a fitting poster.

He's a Trusted Contributor. If he isn't trusted to figure out what is a fitting poster... why is he Trusted?

Agreed. But what about a portrait of the actor in-character from the show in question?

Gad,

Some may have been fitting, but some of those fitting were portraits of person. For example when we use this Photo and we say it is Arrow. That wouldn't make sense, although it is fitting.

You quote:

Sorry, but what do I need to reply to this? You're turning it into a huge issue, which it is not. He is trusted, because we trust his capability to do more to our site, however this does not mean he is adding correct information all the time. I have been submitting some wrong info too before and I would be glad if people point me to my errors, so I stand corrected and will be aware of that in the future. I'd rather be disappointed if nobody checked my edits and wrongly information kept on tvmaze for instance.

Gadfly wrote 9 years ago: 1

If that is the best image available and it's correct, it would make sense to have it for Arrow, yes. It wouldn't make sense to delete it and leave it blank without attempting to find a better image.

If the fault is the policy saying, "Delete and leave it blank rather than create a better image," then that's the policy that needs to be examined.

The issue is that neither you nor TomSouthwell are "incorrect." I'd offer that since it's harder to create than delete, preference be given to the subs of those who create.

I am not sure if a simple portrait of a character suits as a show poster, if there is no text to it, nothing what ties it to the show , then we could make a screenshot of a character for each show that has no poster and use that.

I do not think that is what we want and if that is looking nicely.

I agree with you gadfly that we should be VERY careful deleting stuff, as every contribution is work and that should always be taken into account.

cheers
Juan

true, otherwise the shows pages will soon begin to look like the people section. :D

I'm not sure why this is been brought up, any cast images I've used for shows have come from press photos released for the shows in question. A number of my images were deleted over this, not by you Juan, but by another staff member, which is all well and good, but somewhere in this thread it does seem to a point that both you and Thomas have different ideals for what you would consider a correct image and what you wouldn't like been used.

I must jump in here again! Quite a few months ago in another Forum thread we all agreed that NO Photos would ever be deleted/removed because if they were not what the POB wanted they would just be moved to the gallery of that show or person so why has that agreement changed and who is deleting/removing photos? Whomever it is I believe myself TS and Gad profusely disagree with that decision and need this subject re looked at again by one of the Top 2 POB's please?

Oh and BTW to refresh memories of those that were involved way back then it all began because a lot and i mean a lot of my photos were totally removed and I was very upset about it and made a point to complain big time about it. Especially since no one even bothered or had the courtesy of telling me they were being totally removed and why so I could correct what i was doing from that point on. I found out accidentally on my own which sucks and proves communication sucks here as well!

The problem is, that if there is only ONE photo in the gallery, it is automatically the main image, if you do not want it as the main image and you cannot find another one, then you can only delete it or let it stay as main image.

cheers
Juan

Yes it seems Thomas and I have a different take on this, that is why I want to wait till david and jan are back tomorrow and say something about it.

Meanwhile, could you link me to a few images that were removed, so that i can see for myself ?

thx alot
