I haven't read this entire thread, but to clarify: the size of the images is unlimited. The bigger the better; if we want it to be smaller we'll resize it. The aspect ratio does matter, for posters it's around 0,70.

We might be using different terminology, as I'm not sure what 0,70 is.

What is it? How does it compare to 4:3?

Aspect Ratio of 0.70 is 3.5:5

70%, in other words. Sorry, I was confused, David said "0,70" with a comma instead of a period, which threw me for a loop. :)

So height would be about...428 if the width is 300. Got it.

but the bigger the better, it gets resized automatically :)

I'm just going with 300 since that's the figure that Thomas cited earlier. It's as good a size as a basis as anything.

Just as a note, however, it's resizing to more of a 300:527 or 539. For landscape screencaps and gallery images.

So more of a 0.56.

For person images in portrait, it's resizing to 300:430. So that matches with the 0.7 cited earlier. I'd figure for show images, it does the same.

I think I'm going to lock this thread and move it out of sight in the near future, because we don't want it to be a source of misinformation to users arriving via the search function.

It's pretty simple:

- Images uploaded should be as large as possible. You should never scale down an image before uploading it here.

- Poster images (for shows, people, networks) should be in portrait format, e.g. more tall than wide. The site will scale them to an aspect ratio of around 0.7, though the image you upload doesn't have to be in exactly that ratio: the site will simply crop off content from the top and bottom until the desired format is reached.
