Originally from the small East Yorkshire town of Beverley, Anna Maxwell Martin attended the all girls high school of the town before attending the University of Liverpool to study History. After graduating Anna studied at LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) and subsequently signed onto the Equity. She is known on both the stage and television.
